...Oh...and a couple more things

Some things I saw on SportsCenter that made me need to put a few more things out here.

  1. Bud Selig is still the worst commissioner in sports.  The playing conditions are dangerous right now in the Yankees-Angels game.  A pop-up on the infield a few minutes ago looked routine only because Derek Jeter is a HOFer.  What happens if he gets a raindrop in the eye, gets no glove on the ball, and gets it right in the eye socket?  Shame on you for trying to protect your TV schedule, Bud.  You continue to show yourself as a complete tool.
  2. Kudos to DE Daniel Howard from Texas Tech.  About 18 of the 22 players on the field played the lateral like a dead ball.  But Howard and a couple of his teammates 'played it to the whistle'.  I am constantly lecturing my 6-7yo Flag Football team to play through contact and keep working to the whistle.  Good to see someone doing it right.
  3. Terrelle Pryor will keep breaking hearts in Columbus.  He is brilliant on one drive and terrible the next.  He seems to have all the talent in the world but it is hard to see where improvement has come for him.  Bad decisions and rough around the edges.
  4. Florida will need to get much better on offense to beat Alabama.  I can't wait to see these two battle it out because the defenses are both GREAT.  Alabama struggles to throw the ball but I think they can run it on anybody.  Florida has several good players on defense but no Percy Harvin is a much bigger loss than people thought at the beginning of the year.  He was an X factor guy that had to be accounted for at all times.  No one like that on the field for them now.
  5. Gene Chizik is very good against bad teams but has trouble with equal talent.  I know people don't want to hear that but it was true when he was DC at Texas, true at Iowa State, and it is true now.  People will say 'wait and see' but I don't think that leopard can change his spots.
  6. I was gonna stop at five but needed to get on my soap box for one more...Let the ESPN hype begin now.  Matt Barkley is odds-on favorite to win the Heisman next year.  He will be ANOINTED by all the experts...and they may be right.  He has been very good, very early in his career.  I just hate hearing about USC.
