What the hell is going on? The world is pretty broken right now and I am not sure I see where it is going to end. There is a lot wrong with the economy right now. I think at the end of it all is greed. Analysts have become so deadlocked on growth that companies of all kinds have been making bad decision for years. More and more leverage applied everywhere. It is very much like a fly wheel with too much stored energy. Spinning like crazy and nowhere to release that power...and then it snapped...and the energy (and its' negative impact) was far greater than anyone could imagine. Even Buffett. If he didn't see it coming, who would. Certainly not me. But in the end, it looks like we will all be paying for it for years that will stretch well beyond my lifetime. It makes me a little sad but it really seems to revolve things back around to a reset. Lots of people deferring that retirement and trying to figure out what is next. I hope everyone takes the chance to look around and smell the roses. Ferris Bueller said it was a good idea and you can't argue with Ferris. Enough of that. Thinking can be depressing.
Now for something completely different.
Spring is in the air and I like it. As bad as things are right now, I choose optimism. I have my reasons:
- The kids are awesome. Doing great in school. Working hard in sports. Hopefully they will forgive me for the limited athletic ability I imparted on them. They make up a lot of ground with hard work and sharp minds. I am sure some day one of them will disappoint me but right now that is something I cannot even imagine.
- Jennifer is awesome. I don't think anyone has ever worked harder to make the world a better place for their kids. Volunteering at the school...PTA...RR School Board boundary committee...and taxi driver to their many activities. I wish I had as much energy but ever if I did I am not sure I would choose to do as much good.
- Work is not so bad. Tough climate and lots of tough decisions but we are still doing some good work and, as with any job, it is really all about the people. Good people to start with and tough times usually lead to good camaraderie. Let's just hope it all holds together.
