So. When you are on top everyone wants to tell you what is better and what is next.
The next Michael Jordan...LeBron...Maybe
The next Jack Nicklaus...Tiger...Probably
The next Google...Cuil...I think not.
A few of the early employees at Google and some other really smart people started a company called Cuil. "We will re-revolutionize search for the Internet", they said. Excellent idea but I am not sure anybody was looking for that. Clean looking site. Low frills. I like that. Then I searched for something. To be fair, I am not sure what I expected. But I definitely did not like the result. Maybe I just need to get used to it and I will see the wisdom of the geniuses that built it. I will check back with Cuil periodically but encounter #1 was underwhelming.
Why is doubting Google now a favorite pastime? I don't think every little thing they say is magic but it is pretty damn good...and I think they might really believe in the 'do gooder' credo they spew. Good for them. It is nice to believe in something.
On another note, I started an implementation of Initiate (Master Data Management) at work this week. We are supposed to be finished with the first launch in November. Fasten your seat belts it looks like we might have some bumpy weather ahead.

To the Dude Ranch!!!
Time for the second annual Shockley (and spouses) trip to the Mayan Dude Ranch. We spent a few days there last year and decided to go again this year. It is nice to get away from hustle and bustle for a few day to relax...and boy do I/we need it. A month til school starts and we are still running like crazy. I know we are too busy and need to slow things down a little but I do love staying busy and keeping everyone moving.
So, despite my many protests I am getting the itch to get an iPhone. Probably not reasonable at this point since I have a 3-month old Blackberry on Verizon and 18mos left on my contract. Maybe I will bite the bullet because the new phone and App Store is pretty attractive. Technology is fun but trying to keep up is useless.

OOOOOOPPPSSSS!!!!
Where does the time go? No, seriously, I mean it...and I'm no playing this time. I want to know where it goes. It was May and I thought I was going to get on top of my blogging. Things seemed relatively calm and we were getting beginning to get some of our time back.
Then it was mid-July. I know there were days in between. I had some meetings. We played around in the neighborhood. Weezer released a new album. Work got really crazy. We took the kids to see Pompeii in Houston. Soccer Camp. Dance Recital. What ever happened to summer VACATION. We are busier than we were during the school year.
Time for my hollow promise. More posts. Can you feel the power?
